What to leave in a photograph
silt extends the sense of black and light I have explored in drawing into photography. It is a tool for shaping the light in a photograph and choosing what to reveal in a scene. I wanted filters and other technologies to make it possible to adjust the cinematic staging and colors I have loved since childhood.
Nineteen filters in four families—COLOR, MONO, INK and SIGNAL—bring color, contrast, grain and halation together to give each photograph a different depth and atmosphere. I developed the silt Engine by combining AI technologies that analyze faces, subjects and relative depth. The engine refines light and texture while preserving the photograph’s original form, and runs entirely on the device.
