Steamboat Willie Mimic Shhans
A pixel animation pairing the classic cartoon’s Mickey Mouse with Shhan the black cat
Artwork information
Steamboat Willie entered the public domain in the United States on January 1, 2024. To mark that moment, I reworked scenes from the 1928 original as pixel animation, placing Mickey and Shhan side by side on the black-and-white steamboat.
I made the work while thinking about both releasing the original Mimic Shhans images under CC0 and the moment a classic work becomes material for new creation. I released it as an Ethereum NFT through Manifold.
