Guardian of Dawn
A digital painting of a giant black cat standing like a guardian on a hanok roof
Artwork information
I thought of dawn as a meeting point between night and day, this world and the next, the present and the future. I drew the cat with the wish that it might look ahead and guard us when we cannot know what lies beyond.
I reversed the familiar scale of a cat and a hanok, placing an unreal being within an everyday setting. Its black body, shining eyes and outward gaze were my way of depicting a guardian.
I presented this work at NKF 2024 in Seoul and the GAZE exhibition in Tokyo, among other exhibitions.
