Indifference
A digital drawing and video work contrasting a black cat with red rope to depict a state of numbness
Artwork information
The red rope, tangled like a spider web, represents the people and world around me and the relentless flow of information. Its intricate pattern conveys the pressure and stress that can grow with our connections.
The cat remains nonchalant even as the rope tightens around it. I projected onto that attitude our familiarity with repeated stimuli. Remaining unresponsive can become a way to get through daily life, while also dulling our concern for what surrounds us.
I composed the image around the mismatch between the rope’s tension and the cat’s indifference. I presented this work at URBANBREAK 2024, NKF 2024 and the GAZE exhibition in Tokyo.
