SHHAN’s work begins with a question: what makes us a distinct being, and where does that being begin and disappear?

This question opens in three directions. One considers the individual being itself. Another follows how it comes into being, disappears and changes over time. The third looks at how beings encounter one another, form relationships and change through them.

SHHAN approaches these as Being, Cycle and Relation. These are not classifications of artistic form or medium, but different ways of looking at one world. A work may span several areas; projects are presented here according to the question from which each most strongly emerged.

In SHHAN’s work, the cat continually passes through these questions. At times it is an independent living creature; at others, a figure reflecting human emotions and desires, or a being moving across the boundary between life and death. Crossing between human and animal, reality and imagination, life and death, it connects SHHAN’s different projects.

Since 2025, SHHAN has been building Nullwood, a world that extends these ideas. Its inhabitants have their own appearances and memories, and death and disappearance do not necessarily mean an end. Some things vanish, some remain as traces, and others return in different forms. Through this process, different lives meet and create new relationships and events.

Nullwood is not a finished story but a world that continues to expand alongside the work. Drawing, painting, sculpture, moving image, sound and web spaces become different ways of observing and recording it. For SHHAN, Nullwood is more than a backdrop for individual works: it is a space in which questions of being, cycle and relation can be continually explored.
