SHHAN sees death less as an event opposed to existence than as a transition from one state to another. Coming into being and disappearing, life and death, beginnings and endings lie within a recurring flow rather than apart from one another.

Projects in this area revolve around what remains after something disappears. Memory may remain after the body is gone, and traces of actions or emotions may remain after memory is lost. This is also where the question arises of whether a being reborn in a completely different form can be called the same being.

Reincarnation in SHHAN’s work is not limited to the religious sense of the same being repeatedly returning to life. It also includes traces passing to a subsequent being despite changes in form and the erasure of memory, and similar choices and events recurring across different lives.

Repetition is therefore both a subject and a means of expression. Recurring images and movements, rhythms and sounds, transforming bodies and accumulating records turn the passage of time into a visual and sensory experience.

In Nullwood, death may not be the moment of leaving the world. What seemed an ending becomes a beginning for another being, while traces of a previous life intervene in the next in unknown ways. Within this unending structure of emergence and disappearance, SHHAN explores what vanishes and what ultimately remains.
